Cobrajet880 / warranty claim

I guess it's time to respond to Cobrajet880's version about my poor service. According to the owner, Cobrajet880 bought his used sled with around 6,500 km on it, after spending almost two hours inspecting it with a fine tooth comb.

The trailer he brought was a narrow U-Haul with low railings. The skis stuck out the front under the rails. The owner warned them not to over tighten the tie-downs. Apparently, the warning went in one ear and out the other because two days later Cobrajet880 called back to say the right A-arm was now bent. He wanted the previous owner to pay for the repairs, of course he said "NO". The owner had patiently watched Cobrajet880 inspect the sled thoroughly before he bought it on Oct. 20, 2012.

The distance from Sudbury to Sunderland is 335 km or 3hr and 45 min mostly on principle hwy. However, compressing the A.C. front end real tight was awkward and not a good idea because they are not the beefiest. Cobrajet880 rode the sled another 1,500 km without getting the damage fixed, for a total of 8,000 km on the sled and Triple Points. That explains the wear pattern on the right side ski wear rod.

I admitted nothing to him! When a snowmobiler tells me his right side wear rod wore faster than the left, and then tells me there is no damage to the right side front suspension, I knew he is being less than honest with me. The "Laws of Physics" work the same way on both skis. The extreme wear on the front of the right side host bar could not have happened unless there was damage that forced the front of the ski down even more than usual, even with a shim under the back of the rubber stop.

This is someone who I had no contact with previously, who bought a used sled with used Triple Point carbides and felt entitled to a warranty. I did not think it was a reasonable request, because he was not a customer, but I did ponder it. In the end, I could not justify going along with him. He called me several times through the season. The last time he called me was on my cell phone. I told him I would not replace or refund the cost of the carbides. After he told me he was disappointed several times, he told me he was going on 3 blogs to tell people about my poor service. I told him to do whatever he wanted. I did not hang up on him! While he kept repeating over and over and over again how disappointed he was, everything that needed to be said was already said, but he kept talking. I could not tell if he hung-up on me or the call was dropped. I saw no reason to call him back and he did not call me back.

I did talk to my attorney. He pointed out I would be financially ruined if I warrantied second / owners on what is a wearable product. He also told me it was important, not to set a precedent!

I treat all my customers the same, just the way I want to be treated!

Cobrajet880 was not a customer of ours, so he was not eligible for warranty replacement or refund. Also, if he had the sled repaired before he rode it he would not have had the extreme wear on the host bar.
